Lightening Protocol

⚡ Jesuit Lightning & Extreme Weather Policy

Jesuit has several built-in lightning detectors:

  1. On the roof of the concession stand/bathroom bank (south side of the main campus stadium — visible from both the stadium and grass fields).

  2. Above the home side press box on the stadium field.

  3. On top of the Dove Field House.

⚠️ Lightning Detection Protocol

  • If lightning is detected within 10 miles, a siren will sound and a flashing light will activate on top of the buildings.

  • Immediate Action Required:

    • Fans, players, and coaches must return to their vehicles.

    • Do NOT remain inside the athletic facility or stand outside the gates.

  • The facility will be locked down for a minimum of 30 minutes.

  • Each new lightning strike within 10 miles resets the 30-minute timer.

✅ All Clear

  • The facility will reopen when:

    • Three short siren blasts are heard.

    • Flashing lights stop.

  • Jesuit personnel will then unlock the gates.

⛈️ Game & Practice Adjustments

Games or practices may be called off by:

  • The Referee,

  • The Jesuit Facility Manager, or

  • Iron Horse staff, depending on:

    • Time remaining in the game

    • Current radar conditions

️ Extreme Weather Shelter Locations

  • Main Campus:

    • South Stadium: Bathroom banks (south end)

    • Grass Fields: Bathroom banks (north end)

  • South Campus Practice Fields:

    • Dove Fieldhouse is the designated emergency shelter.

Stay Informed

  • Jesuit uses an app that tracks lightning strikes at 30, 20, and 10 miles from campus and provides alerts for:

    • Facility closure

    • All-clear notifications

    • Weather alerts

  • We will post notices to Gamechanger if there are any cancelations or delays.  Keep in mind this Is sometimes the only notice we can push out when we are on the field.
